There are many DJ’s from New York City, but there is only one with the charisma and passion that displays a true love of making people dance. A man of many talents, DJ Sylk has not only mastered the art of mixing, but has also produced his own tracks that are soon to hit the airwaves.
Born Phillip Jennings from Hollis Queens, New York, has always had a musical influence in his life. DJ Sylk was introduced to music by his brother Paul Jennings at a very early age of 7. Growing up watching his brother DJ parties and practicing in the basement of their parents’ house is what grabbed Sylk the most. From scratching to blending and especially reading the crowd Sylk has mastered these elements.
Sylk’s motto is “in order to be the best, you must learn from the best”, and indeed, he has worked with and learned from some of the best in the radio business such asDJ S-1 oF 107.5 WBLS in New York City, Lil Nat formally of Hot 97, formlly Sirius Satellite Radio’s DJ Ace. He has shared the stage with a long list of notable performers, including Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick the ruler, Chubb Rock, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Blacksheep, Nice & Smooth, Mel’isa Morgan, and Toni,Tony,Tone. All of the knowledge and experience gained from these great personalities incorporated with pure talent and a keen ear have made Sylk one of the most sought after DJ’s in his locale.
Sylk is currently the Tour DJ for the Legendary Roxanne Shante, and is responsible for the sounds at all public Prada, Paco Rabanne, and Angel Fragrances events held in Macy’s throughout the North East Region.
